St Helena
Known primarily for being the exile of the notorious Napoleon
Bonaparte, this island is rich in plant and animal life and
largely unspoilt by tourism. Green valleys, barren desert
and volcanic landscapes provide amazing contrasts on only
47 square miles.
The island is steeped in history, discovered in 1502 by a
Portugese navigator, a variety of activities are available
should you with to learn more, such as a visit to the museum,
or Longwood House (where Napoleon lived), his original tomb
or even the Boer prison camp.
Since the island does not have an airport and can only be
reached by sea it makes for a truly remote destination.
