This ship was built in 1997 to operate on the Norwegian Coastal Voyage service. Since 2002 she has sailed in Antarctic water from October to February before returning to the Norwegian coast for the summer months. Although licenced for 460 passengers the Nordnorge carries a maximum of 350 on the Antarctic voyages.

The Nortnorge decor shows influence of Art Nouveau and Art Deco with a maritime colour scheme. The decoration with works of art by Norwegian artists reflects her heritage. The ship has two outdoor Jacuzzis.
